Capacitively Coupled Resistivity

Capacitively Coupled Resistivity (CCR) is a geophysical method used for rapid mapping of shallow resistivity structure through non-galvanic coupling of alternating electrical current between transmitter and receiver array.

Aurora has two CCR systems:

  • Aurora Rapid Reactance Tomography (ARRT)
  • OhmMapperâ„¢

Both systems operate as a land towed dipole-dipole resisitivity survey, analogous to a dipole-dipole DC resistivity survey and ideal for high resistivity environments and winter-based applications.

Applications range from mineral exploration to geotechnical, including depth to bedrock estimates, permafrost investigation, and utility locates.

OhmMapperâ„¢

  • Single frequency operation: ~16.5 kHz
  • Fixed offset receiver array, up to 5 receivers
  • Ideal in urban settings and most barren terrain
  • Ideal tool for geotechnical applications

ARRT

  • A more ruggedized alternative to the OhmMapperTM, tailored for deeper exploration and more array flexibility
  • Multi-frequency operation up to 20 kHz (records full-wave time serires)
  • Uses independent transmitter and receiver tracking through onboard GNSS sensors
  • Ideal in most barren and some-non-barren terrain and some urban settings
  • Ideal tool for mineral exploration applications
